‘Delays up to 40 minutes’

Traffic England suggests the issue on the A1 is seeing delays worsen – up to around 40 minutes.

’15 minute delays’

The Traffic England map shows delays building – currently reporting that they are around 15 minutes.

‘Considerable disruption and delays’

National Highways also said: “Traffic travelling southbound on the A1 mainline between j66 and just south of j65 will be restricted to one lane. We anticipate this will cause considerable disruption and delays.”

Last night National Highways warned drivers of the issue on the A1

Last night the Highways authority said: “From 6am tomorrow J65 southbound will remain closed for ongoing investigations. Expect significant delays during peak times. Diversions in place.”

National Highways: North East shared the following graphic:

Emergency lane closures on the A1 at Birtley

Issues on the A1 soutbound in the area already affected by road works.

From National Highways NE: “Emergency lane closures – A1 southbound J65 Birtley. Significant delays expected due to mine workings issues.

“J65 southbound exit slip closed (no access to A1231). Lane 1 southbound between J66 (Eighton Lodge) and just past J65 (Birtley) closed for safety. #Plan ahead.”
